WHAT HAVE BEEN ACCOMPLISHED:
JMEC has been structural engineer for a roof repair, roof replacement and seismic strengthening for a 22,000 sf convention center. The construction was completed in 6 weeks in 2006 without any interruption to the building use or revenue loss.
The existing timber roof purlins with dry rot were strengthened by adding pairs of timber members. This also served to correct the roof sag locally. A cool roof was added for energy efficiency and to fix up the leaking roof. Seismic anchors were added to tie the tilt-up concrete panels to the roof diaphragm. The roof diaphragms were strengthened by adding blockings, straps and plywood nailing.
The strengthening extends the life of the building and save a replacement cost of $4 million.
In 2015, JMEC had helped the City to complete a $700,000 renovation and ADA upgrade project in conjunction with tBP/Architecture.
